  • Population: 5.38 million (2001 Population and Housing Census)
  • GDP: US$87.3 billion (2015, World Bank estimate)
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 43.1 million metric tons gross emissions in 2012 (35.0 million metric tons net, accounting for LUCF), on a carbon-dioxide equivalent basis. The Slovak Ministry of Environment’s National Inventory Report of 2016 estimated 2014 emissions to be 42.9 million metric tons gross emissions (34.8 net, accounting for carbon sinks).
  • Energy use per capita: 2,847 kg of oil equivalent, 2013

Important Initiatives related to Climate Change:

INDC: As an EU member nation, Slovakia’s commitment is contained within the larger European Union INDC, which commits its 28 members to a combined reduction of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. The text of the European Union INDC can be viewed here.

NEEAP: Slovakia has produced a National Energy Efficiency Action Plan in 2014. The Action Plan may be found here.
