  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 11.0 million metric tons gross emissions in 2012 (-1.3 million metric tons net, accounting for LUCF), on a carbon-dioxide equivalent basis. Latvia’s 2016 National Inventory Report to the UNFCCC estimated 2014 emissions to be 15.6 million metric tons gross emissions (11.4 net, accounting for carbon sinks).
  • Energy use per capita: 2,159 kg of oil equivalent, 2013

Important Initiatives related to Climate Change:

INDC: As an EU member nation, Latvia’s commitment is contained within the larger European Union INDC, which commits its 28 members to a combined reduction of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. The text of the European Union INDC can be viewed here.

NEEAP: Latvia has produced its 2016-2020 Energy Efficiency Action Plan. It can be found here (currently only in Latvian).
