General Statistics:

  • Population: 1.32 million (2016 Population Indicators)
  • GDP: US$22.5 billion (2015, World Bank estimate)
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 19.2 million metric tons gross emissions in 2012 (17.2 million metric tons net, accounting for LUCF), on a carbon-dioxide equivalent basis. Estonia’s 2016 National Inventory Report to the UNFCCC estimated 2014 emissions to be 21.1 million metric tons gross emissions.
  • Energy use per capita: 4,600 kg of oil equivalent, 2013

Important Initiatives related to Climate Change:

INDC: As an EU member nation, Estonia’s commitment is contained within the larger European Union INDC, which commits its 28 members to a combined reduction of 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. The text of the European Union INDC can be viewed here.

NEEAP: Estonia has produced a National Energy Efficiency Action Plan in 2017. The Action Plan may be found here (currently only in Estonian).
