Albania

General Statistics:

  • Population: 2.8 million (2011 national census).
  • GDP: US$11.5 billion (World Bank estimate)
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions: 8.4 million metric tons gross emissions in 2009, on a carbon-dioxide equivalent basis.
  • Energy use per capita: 112,140 Kg of oil, 2013.

Important Initiatives related to Climate Change:

INDC: In its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC), submitted to the UNFCCC in 2015, Albania set a target of reducing emissions 11.5% below business-as-usual levels by 2030. This represents just over 700,000 tons of emissions mitigation in the year 2030. The text of Albania’s INDC can be viewed here.

NEEAP: Albania has produced its National Energy Efficiency Action Plan. The Action Plan may be found here.
