The Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA) and the City of Belgrade have started to work on the preparation of energy efficiency programmes within a cross-sectoral joint venture. In doing so, they have started engaging public institutions from the local and national level, academia, development agencies and international organizations, while having the backing of UN Environment.
BEA, incorporated into the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) UN worldwide platform, aims to push public and private organizations to execute energy efficiency programs and policies by building on pre-existing networks. Moreover, it moves in the direction of boosting development by providing access to international know-how.
Addressing the building construction sector with energy efficiency standards is essential, considering its major role in energy usage greenhouse gas emissions on the global scale. Thus, by extensively applying best practices, the energy need of the building sector could be decreased by one third by 2050.
